【摘要】:Manynavalstoresproductscontainwaterasaresultoftheprocessesusedfortheirproduction.Typicallyrefinedproductssuchasterpenes,pineoil,talloilfattyacids,anddistilledtalloilcontainonlytracesofwater,butcrudetalloilmightcontain0.5to2.5%ofwater.AlthoughtheKarlFischerandcoulometricmethodsaremostapplicabletolowlevelsofmoisture,thesecanbeandareusedathigherlevels.Theazeotropicdistillationmethodisgenerallyusedathigherlevels.1.1Thesetestmethodscoverthequantitativedeterminationofdissolvedoroccludedwaterpresentinanyproportioninliquidnavalstores,suchasturpentine,pinene,dipentene,pineoil,talloil,andtalloilfattyacids.Threemethodsofmoisturetestingareincluded.TheKarlFishertitrationmethodisthepreferredmethodfortestingtalloil,TestMethodsD803.1.1.1TheKarlFischerTitrationmethodisbasedonthereactionbetweenwaterandacomplexreagentconsistingofiodine,sulfurdioxide,pyridine,andmethanol,wherebytheiodineisconvertedtoacolorlesscompound.Theappearanceofapersistentiodinecolorinthereactionmixtureindicatesthecompleteremovaloffreewaterbyreactionwiththereagent,andtheendpointmaybemeasuredcolorimetrically.Automatictitratorsfindthisendpointbytherestorationofacurrentstrengthwhentheresistanceprovidedbythepresenceofwateriseliminated.Amperometricautomatictitratorsfindthisendpointbydetectingthecurrentflowthatoccursoncewateriseliminated.1.1.2Thecoulometrictitrationmethoddetermineswatercontentbyelectronicintegrationofacurrentsufficienttogeneratethepreciseamountofiodinefromtherequiredreagenttoreactwiththewaterinthesample.1.1.3Theazeotropicmethodutilizestherelativelylowboilingpointofwater,ascomparedwithothersampleconstituents,inatolueneorxylenematrixsothatwateriscollectedinatrapandmeasured.1.2ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Nootherunitsofmeasurementareincludedinthisstandard.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
